Documentation / The IDE

Containers and remote development

Docker, Compose and Kubernetes from the IDE, and working on WSL, SSH or containers as if they were local.

Containers

Open it from the left rail, More tools → Containers (Alt+Shift+K), or under “More” in the bottom panel.

You need Docker and, for Kubernetes, kubectl with a configured context (kubeconfig). If something is missing, Yuli tells you.

Docker and Compose

Action Details
Build image From the project's Dockerfile.
Start / Down docker compose up -d and down, with the status of each service.
Rebuild and start up --build.
Per service Start service, Stop service, Restart service.
View logs Live, with filtering and search; also Logs from all services.
Inspect docker inspect of the container.

You also see Other containers (those not managed by Compose) and Images.

Kubernetes

Action Details
Pods, Deployments and Services From the selected context and namespace.
Restart rollout restart of a deployment, or delete a pod.
Scale Changes the replicas.
Describe kubectl describe.
Forward port To your machine, with the list of Active forwards.
Logs (all replicas) Unified.
Project manifests Apply with kubectl apply.

With a production context, Yuli warns you: restarts, scaling and secrets affect the real cluster.

Configuration

Editable .env files, Environment variables and Configuration and secrets (ConfigMaps and Secrets). Sensitive values are shown masked.

Remote development

Work on another machine as if it were local. Open it from the left rail, More tools → Remote development (Alt+Shift+O).

Connection types

Type Use
SSH A Linux server. Requires the OpenSSH client.
SFTP, FTP, FTPS File transfer.
WSL A WSL distribution on Windows.
Container A development container with Docker or Podman.

Create an environment

  1. Click New environment.
  2. Choose the type and fill in the connection.
  3. Click Test connection.
  4. Save the profile.

What runs on the remote

  • The terminal, the build, the tests and the language servers. Any that are missing are installed automatically.
  • Git runs directly on the remote.
  • Maven, Gradle or JBoss dependencies are resolved on the remote.

Three-way sync

Yuli keeps a synchronized local copy and detects conflicts: changes are never overwritten.

  • Upload now and Pull changes.
  • On a conflict, Compare your version with the remote one and choose: Use mine or Use remote.

Tunnels

Start tunnel forwards a port from the remote to your machine, for example for the debugger or the database.

Your settings travel with you

Sync my settings (shortcuts, theme, editor) with this environment brings your preferences to the remote.

Side-by-side explorer

Open explorer shows your machine and the server side by side, in the editor area.

With the agent

The agent works on the remote with the yuli_remote_* tools: open, list, read, write, execute and transfer. The same permission and approval rules apply.
