Documentation / Getting started

Your first project

Open a folder, let Yuli index it, decide on trust and run the application for the first time.

This guide takes you from a freshly installed IDE to your application running, in five steps.

1. Open the project

In the File menu:

Option When
Open project… The project is on your machine.
Open folder… You want to open any folder.
Clone repository… The project is on GitHub, GitLab or another remote.
Recent projects You've opened it before (Alt+3).
New project from template… You're starting a new one.

Each project opens in its own tab, below the title bar. You can have several open and see two at once with Split view: see two projects at once.

2. Decide on trust

The first time, Yuli asks “Do you trust this project?”.

Option What it does When to choose it
Trust Runs the project's Lombok and Maven/Gradle for a full analysis. Your own projects or your team's.
Restricted mode Doesn't run code from the repository. Analyzes with what it can read. Code you don't know.

You can change it later in Global options → Security → Trusted projects.

3. Let it index

Yuli analyzes the project in the background. A thin bar at the top of the editor shows the progress:

  1. “Preparing code intelligence…”
  2. “Indexing the project…”
  3. “Resolving dependencies and analyzing…”

You can keep editing in the meantime. References, navigation and diagrams will be complete when it finishes.

Yuli detects the project type: Maven, Gradle, Ant, Eclipse, npm or Cargo. If a JDK, Maven or Gradle is missing, it offers to download it.

4. Get to know the interface

Zone What's there
Left The project: files, Git and the agent configuration.
Center The chat with the AI.
Right The editor and its tabs.
Bottom Terminal, Run, Problems, Tests and Quality.

Details in The three zones.

5. Run

You have three ways:

  • On the start screen, Run and test.
  • Shift+F10 runs the last configuration; Shift+F9 debugs it.
  • Ask the agent: “Start the application and tell me which port it's on”.

The output appears in the Run panel. The project's stack trace lines and every Archivo.java:42 take you to the file and line.

To create or adjust configurations (environment variables, Spring profiles, JVM options), use Project → Build, run and debug…. See Run and debug.

Tests

  • Ctrl+Shift+F10 runs all tests.
  • Ctrl+Shift+F11 runs them with coverage.
  • Ctrl+F9 builds the project.

Results appear in Tests and coverage in the editor gutter.

Next step

Connect an AI and ask for your first task. A good first try:

“Explain this project's architecture to me and where the main business logic lives.”
