First run, license and updates

The first-run wizard, Yuli's editions and license, and how signed updates are installed.

Yuli is in BETA and free. It works for real work, but it may have bugs: report them with Help → Report a problem….

The first-run wizard

The first time you open Yuli, a short wizard appears. You can skip it at any step (Skip or Esc) and reopen it whenever you want from Help → Initial setup….

Editions

Situation	What you get
No license	Community mode (Community Edition).
beta or pro license	Everything unlocked.

The features that depend on the license are the agent, Web Studio, MCP, the Security center and CI. A license can limit the features it includes.

The license key

It looks like YULI1.… and is signed with Ed25519: Yuli checks the signature on your machine.
It isn't tied to a machine: the key works on any computer.
Yuli detects if the system clock is turned back to stretch a license.

Online and offline keys

Type	How it works
Offline	Never connects to the network. Suitable for isolated (air-gapped) machines.
Online	Activated against yuliforge.com and validated once a day. Shows the computers in use (“n of total computers in use”) and you can Release one.

If an online license can't be validated, it keeps working for a grace period of 14 days by default. After that it shows “Licence paused (offline)”: the editor and your files keep working. Check now validates again once you're back online.

Activate a license

Open Activate Yuli Code from the wizard or from Help → About.
Paste the key into License key (it starts with YULI1.).
Click Activate.
Check the edition and the status of the license.

To stop using it on a computer: Deactivate this computer or Deactivate license.

Signed updates

Open Help → Check for updates….

Option	What it does
Channel	Stable (default) or Beta. Going back to Stable never installs an older version.
Check automatically	Checks at startup and every 6 hours.
Download in the background	Downloads the update and installs it when you restart or close.
Update server (advanced)	Empty uses the official server. Only `https` is accepted.

Every download is verified with its SHA-512 checksum and with Yuli's own signature (Ed25519). If they don't match, it isn't installed. Portable or archive copies only tell you a new version is available.

In companies, the IT team can serve updates from its own server and set it in Update server.
